Michael Vaughan Urges India to Fast-Track Teenage Sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Sooryavanshi grabbed headlines with a blistering 52 off just 17 balls against Chennai Super Kings, playing a decisive role in Rajasthan Royals’ comfortable eight-wicket victory. His fearless stroke play not only set the tone for the chase of 128 but also overshadowed his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 36 balls.

A Meteoric Rise

The young left-hander has enjoyed a phenomenal rise over the past year. From dominating U19 cricket across England, Australia, and South Africa to delivering a match-winning 175 off 80 balls in the U19 World Cup final against England, Sooryavanshi has consistently proven his extraordinary talent. His innings in the final, studded with 15 sixes and 15 fours, single-handedly secured the title for India.

He had already announced himself on the big stage last IPL season with a stunning 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. Despite concerns about a potential “second-season syndrome,” Sooryavanshi has silenced critics with yet another explosive start to the new season.

Vaughan’s Recommendation

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Vaughan suggested that India should include Sooryavanshi in the squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of England, even if he does not immediately make the playing XI.

Vaughan emphasized the importance of exposing the youngster to the senior team environment early in his career. He believes that being around experienced players and understanding international cricket dynamics would be invaluable for his development.

While acknowledging that it may be early days, Vaughan expressed confidence in Sooryavanshi’s ability, stating that the teenager is already “good enough to play” at the highest level.

Outshining Jaiswal

Vaughan also highlighted the contrast between Sooryavanshi’s aggressive approach and Jaiswal’s more measured innings. While praising Jaiswal as one of the best multi-format players in recent years, he noted a clear difference in intent and fearlessness.

According to Vaughan, Sooryavanshi displayed a modern T20 mindset, focusing purely on launching the ball into the stands, whereas Jaiswal adopted a cautious approach, ensuring stability in the chase despite not being at his fluent best.

Team Support and Confidence

Interestingly, Sooryavanshi revealed after the match that Jaiswal encouraged him to continue attacking, urging him to go for sixes as he was timing the ball exceptionally well. This support allowed the teenager to play with complete freedom and maximize his impact.

The Road Ahead

With performances like these, Sooryavanshi is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket. While the debate over his early inclusion in the national team continues, one thing is certain—his fearless batting and remarkable consistency have already set him apart as a future star.
