Michael Stewart slams 'desperate' Celtic as pundit draws unflattering Brendan Rodgers parallel after Hearts defeat

Michael Stewart believes things "aren't right" at Celtic as he pointed to a "desperate" air around the club following their defeat to Hearts.

The Parkhead club lost their opening league match for the first time in 24 years as Ange Postecoglou 's reign hit another early bump in the road.

New signing Carl Starfelt struggled, particularly on the opening Hearts goal in the 2-1 Tynecastle defeat.

And Stewart believes that is symptomatic of a summer transfer window that has left players being thrown straight into action after coming in.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene the pundit said: "It's a horrendous goal for Celtic to lose and it just feeds into that narrative and that belief that things aren't right.

"Starfelt is only in the door, he has no margin for error and this talks to the bigger issue at Celtic where they are desperate for things to hit the ground running straight away.

"Great for Hearts, brilliant for them to get themselves in front, but just to compare and contrast: Brendan Rodgers' first league game was at Tynecastle.

"He came in the door and had the whole pre-season, he had a team to build, they brought Scott Sinclair on late to win the game.

"The difference is Celtic are chasing everything now. They've got a patchwork team in place and they're up against a hard team to beat.

"Hearts are a good side, they're going to be up there challenging in the top six, and I think you can see there that Ange Postecoglou has got a huge job on his hands."
