Michael Schumacher's son Mick reveals how his Dad has inspired his F1 dream

Mick Schumacher made a significant impact as he made his first official Formula 1 appearance in mid-season testing.

There are high hopes of the son of seven-time world champion Michael as he looks to continue the name made famous by his father in the sport.

The 20-year-old exceeded expectations on his F1 testing debut in the iconic Ferrari by going second fastest in Bahrain.

It has fuelled talk the German youngster could eventually follow in the footsteps of his legendary Dad by making it to the very top of the sport.

Unlike for most young drivers, the media spotlight has been significant as Schumacher aims to rise through the ranks.

Yet he insists the extra pressure is a price worth paying for being able to call the most successful driver in the history of the sport his father.

"It is a difficult question," Mick said when asked if he minded the spotlight.

"It is part of me. I am the son of my dad and I am happy that I am.

"What he has done is the best ever in F1.

"It is something I look up to and I am happy to have him as my dad.

"I wouldn't be the person I am now if it wasn't for him."

Schumacher Snr quit racing in 2006 before a comeback with Mercedes in 2010 and 2012.

He has not been seen in public since suffering severe brain injuries in a horrendous 2013 skiing accident, with his family keeping his condition private.

Schumacher's wife and Mick's mother, Corinna, was present to watch his F1 testing debut in Bahrain.

The youngster will be back on track in an Alfa Romeo on Wednesday in the latest step of his whirlwind year which saw him win the European Formula 3 title before making the jump to Formula 2.
