Michael Schumacher health update as Irish pal Eddie Jordan shares details about F1 star's condition

The Irish man who gave Michael Schumacher his chance in Formula 1 has shared a rare health update on the star.

The racing legend, who is widely regarded as the greatest F1 driver of all time, won seven world championships.

He began his F1 career with Irish team Jordan before going on to drive for Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes across two spells in the sport.

But just a year after retiring for a second time, he was involved in a horror skiing accident in December 2013.

Little is known about his current health, which remains a closely guarded secret, however a number of close friends have shared updates.

Most recently, Dubliner Eddie Jordan has said he’s “there but he’s not there” in the first update on Schumacher’s condition in months.

Jordan was banned from visiting his former driver after reaching out to his wife Corinna last year.

Speaking to OLBG last week , he revealed Michael’s son, ex-Haas driver Mick Schumacher, had since made contact.

He said: “As far as I'm concerned, I was touched by it (Mick reaching out) and the reason I was touched by it was because it can't be easy knowing that your father is not able to be part of the family, he's there but he's not there.

“I have my own view that I don't want to make public but my guess is that Mick showed elating compassion in the way he spoke about his father when the season was not going particularly well for him. He's been dropped for somebody else, and that's a tough decision, he has another fight to come back and to make his name, climb up that ladder again.

“I'm quite sure he will do it. Maybe it was the right thing that happened, but it touched me because I felt so much about Michael, I went out of my way to find him, give him his first chance in Spa, didn't last very long but that love for him still lasts and will always do so while I'm able to draw breaths.”

Jordan Grand Prix was a Formula 1 constructor that competed from 1991 to 2005. The team was named after its founder, Eddie Jordan.

Jordan and his team were well known for an easygoing attitude combined with competitive spirit, which added colour and character to F1 throughout the 1990s.

The team was based at Silverstone in England, but raced with an Irish licence.

In 1991, Schumacher made his Formula 1 debut with Irish Jordan team at the Belgian Grand Prix.

He impressed the paddock by qualifying seventh but ultimately went on to join Benneton later that year.
