Michael Owen worry about Zinedine Zidane dismissed due to Cristiano Ronaldo factor

Michael Owen 's has admitted that he is concerned Zinedine Zidane may suffer from language barrier issues at Manchester United, but that has been branded "irrelevant" by Jamie O'Hara.

Former Real Madrid manager Zidane is favourite to take over at Old Trafford after United confirmed the departure of under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

The Norwegian was dismissed after the latest instalment of humiliation which saw United thumped 4-1 by Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

The damning result means Solskjaer's Red Devils have only managed one win in their previous seven Premier League outings, a dismal record which includes back-to-back home demolitions to fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

With the out-of-work Zidane now tipped to succeed Solskjaer, former United striker Owen took to social media to express his concerns over the Frenchman's ability to communicate with the United squad, should he opt to take up the role.

Owen posted on Twitter : "It has to be the worst possible time for Manchester United to be looking for a new manager. Early in the season with hardly any top managers available. The only obvious one available is Zidane but the language barrier is surely a huge issue. An interim manager looks likely - again."

However, with United boasting a diverse dressing room containing a number of nationalities and Zidane having achieved great success at Real Madrid with a team that included the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, the former England striker's claims have been dismissed as "irrelevant" by ex-Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara.

Would Zinedine Zidane be a good appointment for Manchester United? Comment below

"You look at Zidane, he could come in. He's got Pogba, he's got Varane who can help him with getting across what he needs to get across," O'Hara told Astro SuperSport.

"It's not hard to know what the manager wants from you, but what I think Zidane can do is galvanise the players who need galvanising, like Pogba, like Ronaldo, like Varane, Maguire, Sancho because instantly they are going to look up to him. It's Zinedine Zidane - one of the greatest players ever.

"There's instant respect - plus he's done it at Real Madrid, he's got Champions Leagues under his belt so the language barrier for me is irrelevant.

"Tell me what to do, gaffer and I'll do it for you. Tell me how you want us to play and I'll play that way. There's enough people there in that dressing room to get the points across and know what needs to be done. At the moment, they are all over the place."

Zidane boasts an impeccable CV having guided Real Madrid to three Champions League titles in a row and a La Liga crown during a sensational two-and-a-half year stint in charge of Los Blancos between 2016 and 2018, his first managerial position.

Five days after the third of those European triumphs, Zidane resigned before then returning for a second Real stint in 2019 where he proceeded to win more silverware, including another La Liga title, before once again departing in 2021.

As a player, the former World Cup winner was well-travelled, spending time in his native France at Cannes and Bordeaux before embarking on trophy-laden spells with Italian giants Juventus and in Spain, with the club who would give him his managerial break; Real Madrid.

In addition, according to his former World Cup winning teammate Emmanuel Petit, Zidane is reportedly learning English as he believes it is "important for his career ".
