Michael Owen identifies key Liverpool advantage ahead of Barcelona Champions League semi-final

Liverpool are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League following a 4-1 victory at FC Porto which completed a 6-1 aggregate win in the quarters.

The Reds are now just two matches away from reaching the final of the Champions League for the second successive season but Barcelona stand in their way.

Barcelona were equally ruthless in their quarter-final as they brushed Manchester United aside thanks to a 4-0 aggregate success.

Liverpool travel to Barcelona on Wednesday, May 1 before the return leg takes place at Anfield on Tuesday, May 7.

Whilst many fans might be apprehensive about facing Barcelona later this month, two Liverpool legends in Michael Owen and Steve McManaman firmly believe that the Reds hold key advantages.

Owen's is the most interesting because it surrounds Liverpool having the edge due to the fact that they play at Anfield in the second leg.

Considering the atmosphere and Liverpool's success at home in Europe in recent times, you'd have to say he has a good point.

"The game is away at the Camp Nou which is a massive advantage," Owen told BT Sport after the win at Porto.

The eye-watering amount Liverpool have earned in Champions League so far - and what could follow

"It's a real edge playing the second leg at home. As long as they don't suffer a blow away, they have the advantage."

McManaman, meanwhile, believes Liverpool can bully Lionel Messi like Manchester United did during their first-leg loss to Barcelona earlier this month when the Argentinian failed to make an impact.

"I fancy an English side to win the competition this year. I can see Liverpool scoring at Barcelona and I think they can bully Messi," he added.
