Michael Kors 45th Anniversary Campaign Trades Runway Faces for Real Showstoppers

Michael Kors is marking a major milestone, and instead of leaning on the usual runway names, the designer turned to a group of women who have spent their careers commanding stages rather than catwalks. The Michael Kors 45th Anniversary Campaign brings together Misty Copeland, Sutton Foster, Judith Light, Audra McDonald, Lea Michele and Kara Young, six performers whose backgrounds span ballet, Broadway and television. The campaign quietly debuted after being shown at Lincoln Center's Opera House in New York, a fitting setting given the theatrical thread running through the entire project.

Inside the Michael Kors Fall 2026 Vision

The Michael Kors Fall 2026 collection, titled "New York Chic," is built around structured coats, sharp blazers, soft knits and eveningwear that Kors describes as an ode to streamlined big city glamour. Photographed in black and white by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the images lean into drama rather than polish. Movement direction came from Stephen Galloway, and styling was handled by Carlos Nazario, giving each portrait a sense of motion even in stillness.

Kors explained his casting logic plainly. He wanted women who know how to stop a room simply by entering it, and who better to represent that than performers who do exactly that for a living, night after night. Copeland appears mid movement in an evening dress and faux fur stole, nodding to her ballet background. Michele channels a bit of Fanny Brice, the character she played in both "Glee" and its 2022 Broadway revival, posing in an overcoat and feathered hat while holding a leather handbag. Foster strikes a jazzy pose in a feathered dress and crystal earrings, while McDonald and Light are both wrapped in sharply tailored coats. Young closes out the group in a black bodysuit paired with a shearling coat built for a grand entrance.

Kors has also spoken about the atmosphere on set, noting that the cast arrived at staggered times yet still found moments to connect between takes. He described a real sense of community forming among the group, helped along by loud music and an energetic crew working behind the scenes.

A Brand Built on New York's Performing Arts

Michael Kors launched his namesake label in 1981, and over more than four decades, his connection to New York City's cultural life, particularly its theater and dance scenes, has remained a consistent thread in his work. The Michael Kors 45th Anniversary Campaign leans directly into that history rather than treating it as a footnote. Choosing performers instead of models to headline a milestone moment signals how closely Kors ties his design identity to the city's live entertainment culture, from Broadway houses to ballet stages.

The brand is also using the milestone for a cause beyond fashion. Michael Kors will make a donation in each featured performer's name to Broadway Cares, a nonprofit that supports people receiving lifesaving medication, health care, meals and emergency financial assistance. Pairing a fashion milestone with philanthropic support gives the anniversary campaign a purpose that extends past the clothes themselves.

The images are set to roll out globally across social platforms in August, giving the six-woman cast, and the collection they are wearing, a broad audience right as fall fashion conversations begin picking up.

Why This Anniversary Moment Resonates Beyond Fashion Circles

What makes this campaign stand out is not just who appears in it, but why they were chosen. Rather than defaulting to the industry's usual roster of faces, Michael Kors built an anniversary statement around presence, craft and decades of stage experience. That choice, paired with the collection's tailored New York aesthetic and the tie-in to Broadway Cares, turns a 45th anniversary into something closer to a tribute. For longtime followers of the brand, it is a reminder that Kors' design language has always been rooted in the energy of a city that never really leaves the spotlight.
