Michael Irwin missing - PSNI appeal for man last seen on Christmas Eve

An appeal has been launched to find a missing man last seen in Co Down on Christmas Eve.

Police have issued an appeal to help find missing 47-year-old Michael Irwin.

He was last seen in the Bangor town centre area on Christmas Eve wearing a black beanie type hat, a black jacket and blue trousers.

A PSNI spokesperson added: "He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium build, bald and of pale complexion. He known to wear black beanie hat and tinted glasses.

"Any sightings or other information please contact Police on 101.Our reference number is CC2020122901589."

Meanwhile, a walker has died at the Mourne Mountains.

The incident happened on New Year's Eve after the walker collapsed shortly after beginning the descent from the Donard Commedagh Saddle.

A large emergency rescue mission was carried out in an effort to save the walker's life.

Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Air Ambulance, Belfast Coastguard, Newcastle Coastguard, a rescue helicopter, police call handlers, local walkers and police search and rescue were among those involved in the response to the incident.

But despite the best efforts of those involved, the walker could not be saved.

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team received a request for assistance at around 1.55pm on Thursday over the medical emergency.
