Michael Edwards' stance on replacing Marina Granovskaia at Chelsea revealed amid Man Utd worry

Former Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards sees a move to Chelsea as one that has a 'great appeal' as the two main candidates to replace Marina Granovskaia in Todd Boehly's board reshuffle emerge.

This week has been one of many twists and turns for the Blues off the pitch. On the board, both Bruce Buck and Granovskaia stepped down from their roles after their many years of service under Roman Abramovich. Petr Cech's future is also coming under severe scrutiny.

On the transfer side of things, new interim sporting director Boehly appears close to finalising the Romelu Lukaku loan deal, a piece of business that could in turn spark of a flurry of action for the current World Champions with regard to incoming players.

But in the long run, Boehly knows that a new heir to Granovskaia's throne needs to be appointed and two candidates have emerged as the early favourites in this race. First off, you have Atletico Madrid's Andrea Berta who reportedly is interested in the role and would be willing to jump ship at the Wanda Metropolitano to try something new. The other is ex-Liverpool director Edwards, a person who played a big part in the construction of Jurgen Klopp's serial winning side. He's a person that has great appeal to Boehly, who wants to turn the Blues into a Liverpool-type club in the transfer market.

So, who better than Edwards to take the mantle left by Granovskaia? The Daily Mail have validated these links whilst also stating that Manchester United are also interested in the person who held very good relationships with the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) ownership on Merseyside.

However, it is already apparent that the west Londoners hold the major advantage in this race over the Red Devils, not just because of the rivalry factor that exists between United and Liverpool, but also because the person in question views a move to Stamford Bridge as more attractive at this current moment.

This is according to Mark Ogden of ESPN, who has indicated that Edwards is prime candidate for the Chelsea role, despite the early Berta links. His report read: "Sources have told ESPN that a move to Chelsea would hold great appeal to Michael Edwards and Todd Boehly has him as the leading candidate as things stand."

Nonetheless, the Blues still have some task as per other reports in convincing a man well-liked by Jürgen Klopp to move to Stamford Bridge. It is understood that the 42-year-old is committed to spending a little time away from football before a decision is to be made on his long-term future, so whether or not Boehly can change his mindset remains to be seen.
