Michael Carrick sends message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Man Utd programme notes

Michael Carrick has sent a message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Manchester United's clash against Arsenal.

The caretaker manager will take charge of United for the third successive game as the Gunners visit Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Interim boss Ralf Rangick will be in the stands to watch his side as he waits to get his visa issues sorted.

The German will likely be in the dugout in the weekend against Crystal Palace, but the delay means Carrick will lead the Red Devils out once again as they face Mikel Arteta's men.

Carrick's first home meant he has the first chance to write the programme notes as he took the opportunity to thank Solskjaer who was sacked last week.

He wrote: "On behalf of myself and the coaching staff, I’d like to start by thanking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the work he did in his time as manager."

Carrick insists he's not been in contact with Rangnick as he denied claims the German had input into team selection for Sunday's 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Asked if he had spoken to Rangnick, he said: "No, because of the process and work permit, we haven't been able to.

"So we've carried on It's worked well the last two games and hopefully will tomorrow.

"I haven't really got anything to update you on, other than the work permit process is ongoing as we speak and I'm in this position, as I was for Villarreal and Chelsea, getting the boys ready for the game tomorrow night."

Reflecting on his time in charge of United, following the sacking of Solskjaer, Carrick added: "A lot has happened in the last week to 10 days.

"I've certainly had to adapt and take on a new challenge and different kind of skill set.

"I've kind of enjoyed seeing how I've come to that. You don't know in this situation, it's something you've got to learn on the job, but for the most part, I've enjoyed it.

"I've learned an awful lot this week, you learn on the job, but having been pretty close and seen what's going on in recent years, it's not been as much of a step up as people think."
