Michael Carrick has been praised for benching Cristiano Ronaldo against Chelsea by former Premier League midfielder Jamie O'Hara.
Ronaldo was a surprise name amongst the substitutes as United managed to claim a draw against the league leaders at Stamford Bridge.
He would come on just after the hour mark with United a goal up, as they looked to kill the game off with a second.
However, Chelsea would score from the spot and were good value for a point, but could have stolen all three when Antonio Rudiger missed a glaring opportunity at the end of the game.
In the Sky Sports studio, Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane clashed over their thoughts on Ronaldo's benching, with the former stating that it shouldn't be a big story in dropping the 36-year-old for games in occasions.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, O'Hara gave his thoughts on why Carrick's decision was the correct one.
He said: "I think Carragher makes a good point. You aren’t bringing in Ronaldo to win cups, you are bringing in Ronaldo to go and win the league.
"They finished second so the next progression is to challenge for the title and win the league.
"I think they did bring in those types of players to challenge for the title, it’s just shown they are still not there even with those players.
"They still have more to do in terms of bringing the right players in and manager and trying to progress.
"I didn’t agree with them saying Ronaldo should start every game.
"If you look at the facts of the game, Ronaldo came on with half an hour to go and they were winning 1-0.
"Michael Carrick has got it right tactically. They are winning 1-0 and Ronaldo comes on fresh for half an hour and they draw the game.
"If Ronaldo comes on and they are losing 2-1 and it is desperation to try and get something from it then I can understand the argument.
"If you look at the facts, Carrick got it right because they were winning."
Carrick will once again take charge of United on Thursday when they take on Arsenal, as the club hope Ralf Rangnick will have his work visa before Sunday when Crystal Palace come to Old Trafford.
