Michael Bisping has revealed talks with Jake Paul's team over a potential fight broke down when he asked them to double their initial offer.
The former UFC middleweight champion was among the YouTube star's touted opponents for his third professional boxing bout.
Paul eventually took on another former MMA fighter in Ben Askren who earned a career-high $500,000 purse in April.
And Bisping told Mirror Fighting: "My agent Audie Attar said to me that his people had been in touch about fighting.
"They mentioned a number, we went back and doubled that number, but it wasn't serious negotiations.
"I just threw back a double to see what their response was, but it wasn't like we were sitting down having meetings over it."
Bisping insists he had no interest in pursuing the bout, and is unsure if Paul did either, theorising that it was a tactic to gain the YouTube star mainstream attention.

"It was a very flippant response; 'double it and see if they're serious!'" he added. "They never came back.
"So I don't know if it was serious or if they were just using me because they know I've got a big mouth, I'll mention it and that gives Jake Paul credibility.
"Maybe I just got used, chewed up and spat out, but I've got no interest in boxing Jake Paul, I'm retired and very happy with that."
And he has since been offered other boxing matches, with notorious MMA troll and 2-0 Bellator star Dillon Danis claiming to have offered Bisping a "huge" sum to take him on in the ring.
But the Brit insists that Danis is nothing more than an "idiot".
"He had that tweet last week or whatever it was," Bisping joked. "There was no offer, there was nothing.
"There was less correspondence than there was from Jake Paul - that's just total nonsense, that guy is not a fighter.
"At least Jake Paul is pushing himself and going out there fighting people, Dillon Danis isn't."
Danis is another prospective opponent for Paul, although he may have missed his chance as a win against Tyron Woodley on Sunday night would be his second against a more established fighter than the jiu-jitsu expert.
While Danis is one of the most renowned BJJ practitioners in the world, he still has a lot to prove in the sport of MMA, winning his first two fights against very low level opposition before taking a number of years out through injury.
On the other hand, Askren and Woodley were both world championship level fighters in their respective primes, with Askren having held the Bellator and ONE FC belts and Woodley a former UFC title holder.
BT Sport Box Office will show Jake Paul v Tyron Woodley exclusively live on Sunday 29 th August.
