Miami Dolphins claim former first round pick Taco Charlton off waivers

The Miami Dolphins have added another draft bust to their collection of this season — as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the Dolphins have claimed recently cut defensive end Taco Charlton off of waivers. Charlton, who was a 1st-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys during the 2017 NFL Draft, was cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday.

It will be interesting to monitor if Charlton is made available to play on Sunday — as Miami’s opponent this weekend is none other than Charlton’s former team, the Cowboys.

Charlton, who is a product of the University of Michigan, has struggled to get his footing as an NFL pass rusher — most point to a lack of explosiveness as to a key variable in his struggles through his first two seasons in the NFL. But in Miami, he may well be the best pass rushing option on the roster. He and Charles Harris were only selected a few slots apart in that NFL Draft — and now both look to preserve their NFL career teams on the pass rush hungry Dolphins defense.

Miami, which sat midway through the waiver priority, gets a chance to coach up another former top talent in the hopes that something fruitful can come from a low risk move.

Stay tuned for more on Charlton’s addition to the roster.
