The crash occurred near the town of Hostotipaquillo, close to the border between Jalisco and neighbouring Nayarit.
According to Jalisco's Civil Protection agency, the truck rammed into stationary vehicles that had gathered at the scene of an earlier collision involving two cargo trucks.
The impact triggered a much larger accident, with two cargo trucks and three other vehicles catching fire. A patrol vehicle belonging to the Mexican National Guard was also damaged in the collision.
