Mexican President Sheinbaum Claps Back At Stephen Miller Over Claims About Crime In Mexico City: 'Maybe He Doesn't Know The Stats'

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum clapped back at White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller after he used Mexico City as an example of a crime-ridden city.

The U.S. official made the claim while saying that Democrats are failing to provide security in the ones they run. "If your streets are more violent, as these Democrat cities are, more violent than Baghdad, more violent than communities in Ethiopia, places that many Americans would never even dream of visiting, some of the most dangerous places on planet Earth, then they are more dangerous than Mexico City," Miller told Fox News on Monday.

Asked about the statement during her daily press conference, Sheinbaum said she asked the Foreign Ministry and the Security Cabinet to "send this White House official the data concerning Mexico City, which perhaps he is not aware of."

"The reduction in homicides between 2018 and today is almost 60%," Sheinbaum added. "We have fewer and fewer crimes. There are issues that we of course have to deal with, no one says we don't, but it is not what this person is perhaps imagining."

The Trump administration is focusing on crime after it seized control of Washington D.C.'s police and deployed the National Guard to the city, claiming its government has allowed it to become ridden with crime. In fact, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his administration will seek the death penalty as punishment for homicides in the city.

"If somebody kills somebody in the capital, Washington, D.C., we're going to be seeking the death penalty," Trump said during a cabinet meeting. "I don't know if we're ready for it in this country, but we have no choice," he added.
