José Adán Rodríguez, a norteño singer known professionally as Adán R and a former vocalist for the regional Mexican group Los Nuevos Rebeldes, was shot and killed outside his home in Culiacán, Sinaloa, on the night of Sunday, July 5.
According to local outlets, the attack took place around 9 p.m. in the carport of his home in the Stanza Cantabria neighborhood, at the intersection of Breñovieja and Ampuero streets. Reports say armed men arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on Rodríguez multiple times before fleeing the scene. Neighbors alerted authorities after hearing gunshots, and paramedics who responded confirmed he had died at the location. He was 29 years old.
State security forces and prosecutors from Sinaloa's Attorney General's Office cordoned off the area and opened an investigation. As of Monday, authorities had not released information about a motive or any suspects, according to RPP Noticias.
Family members, including his mother, siblings, and partner, arrived at the scene and identified the victim as José Adán Rodríguez.
Rodríguez had roughly 19 years in regional Mexican music. He spent about five years as a vocalist and bajo sexto player for Los Nuevos Rebeldes, a group founded in Culiacán in the late 1990s by musician Eduardo Nájera. He announced his departure from the band in February 2025 to pursue a solo career under the name Adán R, telling fans in a video at the time that new projects were on the way. He had also previously performed with Grupo Tornado earlier in his career.
As a solo artist, he continued performing regional Mexican music, including a show in Altata, and had more than 20,000 followers on Instagram, where he shared new releases and performance videos. Just two months before his death, Adán R had posted a series of live acoustic performances on his YouTube channel of songs including "Coleccionando Heridas," "Consejos Gratis," "No Hace Falta Nada," and "Media Naranja," according to Infobae. He was born on November 24, 1996, in Culiacán, studied at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, and had a young daughter, roughly five years old.
No arrests had been reported as of Monday, and the investigation into the killing remains open.
