Mets place Noah Syndergaard on the disabled list with hand, foot and mouth disease

There is no such thing as rock bottom for the Mets.

Noah Syndergaard will go on the 10-day disabled list with hand, foot and mouth disease, John Ricco announced Sunday before the start of the final game of the Subway Series. The disease is actually a viral infection characterized by sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet.

Syndergaard pitched Friday during the Mets' 7-5 win over the Yankees, but he showed diminished velocity with what was described as a dead arm.

Ricco said Syndergaard likely contracted the illness, common among children, while working at a youth camp during the week.

The Mets face the Yankees at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
