Metrolink station closed amid reports of a 'stabbing' - forensics are at the scene

A Metrolink station has been closed following reports of a 'stabbing'.

There's a large police cordon in place at Radcliffe tram stop tonight (Sunday) and forensics officers have been spotted at the scene.

It comes amid unconfirmed reports two teenagers have been stabbed during a fight between two groups.

Metrolink tweeted: "Due to a police incident, services are unable to stop at Radcliffe tram stop.

"Please check back for further updates."

Part of the car park and the pedestrian entrance to the tram stop, off Spring Lane, have been cordoned off.

One witness said: "There's a cordon outside the entrance to the tram stop. It's about 15m wide.

"Three police cars are outside stopping cars getting into the car park that's closest to the tram stop.

"CSI have just turned up as well."

Police have been patrolling the Metrolink line through Bury in recent days in a bid to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

On Friday GMP Bury South posted on Facebook: "Transport Unit C Relief are currently out at Radcliffe Metrolink Station this afternoon, along with our TFGM and Metrolink partners, in order to deter crime and anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to customers who use the public transport network.

"We will be deploying along the Bury Line, at stops such as Bury Interchange, Radcliffe and Whitefield; keeping you safe during your journey."

Metrolink passengers are being advised to use Bury and Whitefield stations. Passengers can use their tickets on the 98 bus, Metrolink said.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a comment.
