Semitrailer struck by Metra train in Arlington Heights drives off before authorities arrive

Sun-Times file

A semitrailer drove away after being struck by a Metra train Monday morning in Arlington Heights.

Outbound train 611 struck the semi around 10 a.m. at Rohlwing Road, northwest the Arlington Park station, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

When authorities arrived, the vehicle was gone but a piece of the semi and its license plate were left behind, Reile said.

Metra police and Illinois State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement were investigating.

Trains began moving again around 11:30 a.m., Reile said.

On Friday, Metra Rock Island train struck a vehicle on the Far South Side of Chicago. The driver of the car in that crash was expected to survive.
