Met Office weather forecast as four days of warnings issued for Wales

Four days of yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office as Wales braces itself for outbreaks of heavy rain.

The first of a series of warnings began on Thursday morning, and an another two are set to span the Halloween weekend.

Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said: “Until the end of October we are looking at an unsettled spell of typical autumnal weather which will dominate the forecast. Every year we expect the remnants of decaying tropical hurricanes to disrupt conditions when they enter the North Atlantic.

“The remnants of former Hurricane Epsilon have been subsumed into another deep area of low pressure to the south-west of Iceland, and although the low centre is a long way from our shores and won’t cause disruption, the trailing weather fronts associated with this system will bring wind and rain to the UK, along with a potentially heavy swell."

However, rain is set to be fiercer than wind throughout the week as the weather pattern drags moist and warm air into the UK from the south Atlantic.

This will trigger heavy rainfall for western parts of the UK, particularly on high ground.

Warning areas can see accumulations of 30-40mm of rain, while more isolated areas exposed to the winds could see 50-80mm.

The heaviest rain is set to fall over the mountains of Wales, where up to 130mm is possible.

The persistent, heavy rainfall may lead to the flooding of homes and businesses, causing damage to some buildings. Power cuts and disruption to other services is also possible.

The Met Office said people should be alert for fast flowing or deep floodwater.

Anyone heading out during the stormy weather should prepare for delays or cancellations to train and bus services. Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
