Met Office warns it could snow as cold snap continues

Met Office forecasts are warning it could snow amid what can at times feel like a never-ending winter.

Many people have taken to social media to criticise the weather, which feels a lot cooler and wetter than previous years. And forecasters predict there could even be wintry showers today (Monday) on higher ground.

A Met Office spokesperson has also told the ECHO why it feels so cold for the time of year.

They said: "Temperatures across the UK for April so far are just below the long term average, and this is also true for the North West of England. There have been spells of below average temperatures through the month that have made it feel particularly cold, with northerly air flows bringing a cool breeze.

"This is true for the next couple of days, as cold northerly air brings another widespread frost tonight and tomorrow night in the north west, before more mild air moves in from the west towards the end of the week bringing temperatures back to around average for the time of year."

Liverpool can expect highs of 15C by Saturday, April 29, jumping up from highs of 10C today (Monday). Looking further ahead, the Met Office UK long range forecast predicts "more settled weather" as we move into May, with "predominantly dry conditions" across the country.

Overall, it adds: "Temperatures will likely be below average to start in the far north but will increase to slightly above average through the period."

Temperatures are more likely to be above average overall between May 8 and May 22, the meteorologists added.
