Met Office predicts when Liverpool will see snow as UK set to be hit by 'snowbomb'

The Met Office has delivered its verdict as some forecasters predict a snowbomb will hit the UK in January.

With Friday set to be the mildest New Year's Eve on record, the idea of snow is probably far from most of our minds - with temperatures in Liverpool set to reach 14C.

But a forecast by WX Charts says the UK is set for more than ten inches of snow during the middle of the month.

Heavy snow is anticipated nationwide, with Scotland and the North of England to see the most of the white stuff.

The Met Office has now predicted the chances of Liverpool seeing snow in January - and when it's most likely to fall.

In its long range forecast, the Met Office said temperatures are expected to fall to around or slightly below average early next week.

Between January 4 and January 13 "some wintry showers with snow to fairly low levels is possible in the north", and in the second half of that week there will be "occasional snow to hills in the north".

Through the second half of January, we can expect "changeable" weather, with wet and windy spells " interspersed by drier, brighter periods".

The forecast for these two weeks continued: "Temperatures are overall expected to remain slightly above average as a result of mild spells and shorter-lived colder periods.

"These shorter-lived colder periods may still allow for some snow but this will typically fall over hills in the north.

"Later in the month, there is a tentative sign of more settled spells developing, particularly across the south which would increase the chance of overnight frost and fog here."
