Met Office predictions for Liverpool as Storm Barra set to hit the UK

Strong winds are set to hit Merseyside once again this week as forecasters predict another storm coming our way.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region, expected to be battered again on Tuesday.

The alert comes less than a fortnight after Storm Arwen caused travel disruption as trees were ripped from the ground across the region.

The Met Office believes further travel disruption could hit the area from 9am on Tuesday and has issued a warning that extends to midnight.

It added road, rail, air and ferry transport delays are "likely".

The warning covers much of the UK - with neighbouring areas being told they may see snow.

The Met Office said: "A band of rain will turn to snow across northern England and Scotland through Tuesday.

"[2-5cm of snow] is expected to accumulate quite widely across the area, but locally this could reach 10cm, particularly in parts of the Southern Uplands and Highlands.

"Strong southeasterly winds will also lead to snow drifting in places, particularly over the highest routes, adding to poor visibilities."

That warning has been issued to people living in Lancashire and Greater Manchester - but the snow is not predicted to reach Merseyside or Cheshire.

The strong winds anticipated later this week are set to hit as Merseyside remains scarred by Storm Arwen.

Dozens of trees were ripped up leading to road closures and rail services being cancelled.

The impact of the storm is still being felt in parts of Cumbria and the North East, where some communities remain without power.
