Met Office issues yellow warning for wind in Nottingham

Heavy winds have been forecast across Nottinghamshire after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.

The warning, between 4am and 6pm on Friday, August 21, could lead to some travel disruption with wind gusts of up to 47 miles per hour predicted throughout the day.

The Met Office has advised people to expect some delays to all transport, with journeys on public transport likely to take longer and "short term loss of power" also possible.

The forecaster also says damage to trees and debris on roads is possible.

The weather warning says: "Strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop across much of England, Wales and southern Scotland during Friday.

"Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are expected fairly widely inland with gusts of 55-60 mph possible around coasts and over hills.

"Winds are then expected to gradually ease during late afternoon and evening."

The weather forecast for Nottinghamshire throughout the day predicts rain in the morning and early afternoon, with temperatures between 19C and 21C between 10am and 7pm.

The Met Office says the fastest wind gusts will hit at around 1pm, with speeds of 47mph, however, gusts will be as fast as 45mph from 10am onward.

The temperatures will also feel lower than forecast due to the wind speeds, with 21C only feeling like 15C at 1pm.
