Met Office issues new snow warnings for East Midlands this weekend

Forecasters have issued new weather warnings for snow across the East Midlands this weekend. The latest warnings are in addition to those in place already, with a yellow warning for parts of Nottinghamshire lasting until 2pm on Friday (March 10).

The Met Office has now issued two new weather warnings for snow and ice for Saturday and Sunday (March 11 and 12). Both warnings are for just over the border into Derbyshire and further north into Scotland.

The Met Offices says that further snowfall has the potential to cause disruption. The forecaster warns that there are ‘possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers’. They warned buses and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible.

“A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces. There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.”

The latest warnings come after much disruption across Nottinghamshire on Thursday. Buses have been diverted and flights at East Midlands Airport were temporarily halted so the runway could be cleared.
