Kim Kardashian stuns at Met Gala 2019 with Thierry Mugler's first design in twenty years

Kim Kardashian West was always going to have fun with this year's Met Gala theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, and the reality star did not disappoint.

Arriving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a skintight beaded latex dress by Thierry Mugler, the look was one of Kim's most ambitious to date. Previous Met Gala's have seen her wear a liquid gold slip dress by Versace to the 2018 Met Gala and the meme-worthy floral Givenchy dress complete with matching gloves to the 2017 event.

This year's creation was made to give the illusion that the star was dripping wet and had just stepped out of the ocean, à la Sophia Loren in 1957's Boy on a Dolphin. Kim posted photos of the fifties screen siren on her Instagram Stories citing the bombshell as her inspiration.

The dress was designed by Thierry Mugler and was his first in twenty years. Eight months in the making, the masterpiece was flesh-coloured and featured hanging crystals designed to look like droplets of water.

Kim channelled the wet look all the way down to her makeup and manicure, with crystals attached to her nails and 'just stepped out of the ocean' wavy hair.

Her husband, Kanye West, on the other hand, played down the camp theme choosing to go for a decidedly understated look. The rapper and designer wore head-to-toe black with a Dickies Eisenhower jacket worth just $43 and Yeezy Season 4 Military Combat boots.
