Dublin was the driest, sunniest and warmest county in Ireland throughout the month of August according to Met Eireann.

Temperatures were above average across the entire country, with Dublin recording its warmest August in 15 years.

The average high temperature at Phoenix Park was 16.2C, the highest since 2004.

And the sun was splitting the stones in the capital compared to everywhere else, with a total of 190.6 sunshine hours recorded at Casement Aerodrome.

It was the sunniest August in 16 years in Dublin, when the last time there was such a high amount of rays was 2003.

That was 96 hours more than the lowest in Ireland at Valentia Observatory in Co Kerry.

But in a month of ever-changing conditions there was also higher than average rainfall recorded across Ireland.

Despite this Dublin had the lowest total average rainfall at 68.7mm at Phoenix Park - in comparison, the highest rainfall was recorded in Athenry, Co Galway at 297.3mm.
