Met Eireann forecast week when warmer weather will return amid miserable conditions

Ireland's weather is set to get much warmer towards the end of the month with normal June conditions on the horizon.

Met Eireann's monthly forecast predicts that from May 21st, we will see an improvement in the weather as the unseasonably cold temperatures rise.

For that week, people can look forward to good dry spells with sunshine, especially further to the east.

It will still be on the cool side for May, just below average. However, things are set to improve just in time for the start of June, when outdoor dining will resume.

Weather chiefs are forecasting a significant improvement from May 28, with more settled conditions expected up until June 3.

Pressure will be relatively high across northern Europe, bringing that largely settled weather across Ireland, with below-average amounts of rainfall forecast.

Temperatures are predicted to increase, hopefully allowing for plenty of beach days and outdoor activity for the month of June.

But for now, the country will have to deal with heavy showers and even thunderstorms.

Met Eireann has issued an urgent thunderstorm warning for 21 counties as miserable conditions are set to hit.

The weather alert is in place from 1pm until 10pm on Wednesday for Leinster, Munster, Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan.

It reads: "Scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with a risk of hail and localised spot flooding."
