Mesut Ozil sends message to Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta after 5-0 Man City thrashing

Three games. Three losses. No goals scored.

That is the story of Arsenal's 2021/22 Premier League campaign thus far as they currently sit in the bottom three.

Following 2-0 defeats against newly-promoted Brentford and London rivals Chelsea, the Gunners travelled to reigning champions Manchester City with little hope of grabbing a result at a ground they have failed to win since January 2015.

However, Mikel Arteta's side delivering a gutless performance as the Citizens outclassed them from minute one as they ran away 5-0 victors.

Pep Guardiola's men were in cruise control in the first half before Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was sent off for a needless two-footed challenge on Ferran Torres as the north London side finished with a measly 19% possession.

City peppered Bernd Leno's goal throughout the one-sided contest, registering 25 shots, ten of which were on target. Comparatively, the Gunners failed to manage a single shot on target as they mustered just one shot during across 90 minutes.

And after the game former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil took to social media to voice his verdict on Arteta's side.

The former German international tweeted: "Trust the process", a saying that a large section of the Arsenal fanbase have coined in regards to giving their head coach more time in the managerial hot-seat. It was accompanied by a broken heart emoji and a sad face.

It was unclear if Ozil, who was frozen out by the former City assistant coach before departing for Fenerbahce in January, was mocking his former boss or if he was genuinely backing Arteta, who has come under considerable fire from a large section of the fanbase.

Arsenal have two weeks to recover from their bitterly disappointing start to the season before they host Norwich at the Emirates Stadium on September 11 following the upcoming international break.
