Mesut Ozil sends message to Arsenal fans after being substituted in win over Leeds

Mesut Ozil was quick to take to Twitter after Arsenal booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The German delivered a quiet performance as the Gunners were often overrun in the first half at the Emirates Stadium, often failing to get on the ball as opponents Leeds United carved out several chances.

But the Championship club failed to take those opportunities, with their finishing proving wasteful and Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in fine form.

The Argentinean's saves were then able to set the platform for the Gunners to go on to win the game, as Ozil's influence grew in the contest and Reiss Nelson scuffed home the winning goal 10 minutes into the second half.

Ozil would eventually be replaced by Joe Willock as Mikel Arteta sought to see out the game late on, and the German was a happy man at full-time.

Tweeting an image of himself preparing to take a corner in front of the Leeds supporters, Ozil wrote: "Fourth round of the cup unlocked."

After the game, Arteta called for his team to use the result to show greater consistency as they backed up their 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United by booking a fourth round FA Cup tie at Bournemouth .

"Absolutely (we need to show more consistency), because they haven't done it for many, many months," he said .

"So it has to be a process, but that's why I think tonight is a really good lesson for them.

"So they can live their profession and suffer on the pitch like they did for 30 or 35 minutes, or they can enjoy and feel proud of what they do if they play like they did in the second half. It's their choice."
