Mesut Ozil's agent makes bizarre claim about former Arsenal star's next career move

Former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil could become an Esports athlete after the German retires from football.

Ozil's agent Dr Erkut Sogut has commented on the future of World Cup winner admitting Ozil could become an Esports player when his football career ends. The 33-year-old currently plays for Fenerbahce in the Turkish top-flight after leaving the Emirates in 2021 - though his situation at the club is up in the air after being suspended in March.

Ozil spent eight years in north London, joining the club for a fee in the region of £42million and won the FA Cup on three occasions with Arsenal. The 33-year-old owns an Esports team called 'M10 Esports', which he founded in 2018.

In an exclusive interview with the Telegraph, Sogut revealed he can see Ozil moving into the world of Esports as a professional gamer once he retires from football. Sogut said: "He's really good, to be honest, at Fortnite and I think one day I wouldn’t be surprised if he is competing.

"He owns a team [M10 Esports] and he has players. He has a gaming house in Germany and he has football, like FIFA, and Fortnite."

During Ozil's time at the Emirates Stadium, the German was accused of spending too much time playing video games rather than focusing on his football. The 33-year-old's contract was eventually terminated six months early in 2021 and now finds himself in a tricky situation at Fenerbahce after manager Jorge Jesus suggested his time with the club is over.

Sogut continued: "I think he will not play football in any other club any more. I can't see that – it will be Fenerbahce and that’s it."

Ozil has two years left on his current deal with the Turkish outfit but his agent doesn't see him continuing his playing career once further into the future. Sogut suggested that Ozil would likely retire from the game rather than search for a new club should the 33-year-old be forced out of the team.
