People living in one part of Merseyside can finally pop to their "local" for a pint.
A new micropub has opened its doors in Crossens in Southport - where there hasn't been a pub since the closure of the Plough Hotel in 2015.
The Beer Den 2 on Rufford Road opened today (Wednesday) and is owned by Parker Brewery, which is based in nearby Banks.
Owner Richard Parker said: “Yes! We are finally opening this Wednesday, between 4pm and 10pm.
“We have three cask ales on and three lagers, along with a good selection of wines and spirits. It is my second micro pub, with Beer Den 1 on Duke Street.
“We are looking to create a warm, friendly community based drinking Den, where everyone becomes friends!”
It has been a tough wait for The Parker Brewery to open the venue. The plans were delayed by the pandemic.
But Monday saw a further relaxation of Covid restrictions, with the Government now allowing people to spend time indoors in hospitality venues including pubs, restaurants, hotels, bars and cafes.
Richard continued: “We cannot wait to greet all our new customers.
“It's been a long hard wait to finally open our doors, and as we have little or no space for outside seating, we have had to wait for this week.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone and seeing friendships evolve, to become a relaxed community drinking place.
“We have had a huge amount of support and excitement from all the local residents as there really isn't anywhere close by.”
The venture is a complete family orientated business, with one full-time employee, Richard's brother–in-law Stuart.
Richard says he has a passion for beer and intends to build a stylish brand synonymous with quality, to gather a loyal local following.
The brewery opened in April 2014. It increased in size and moved to the current 5bbl plant in September 2014.
The Parker Brewery supplies pubs, bars, restaurants and small independent retailers.
