Merseyrail worker assaulted at train station

A Merseyrail worker was assaulted at a train station.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Rock Ferry station at 9.59pm on Thursday following reports of an assault against a member of rail staff.

Officers attended the scene and a 56 year old man was arrested in connection to the assault and taken to custody where he remains.

A spokesperson for BTP said enquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Trains were delayed on Thursday after the 'act of disorder' including services on the Chester and Ellesmere Port line.

The 10.17pm train service from Liverpool Central to Chester ran non stop between Liverpool Central and Hooton due to the incident.

This was also the same for the 101.21pm service from Liverpool Central to Ellesmere Port which ran non stop between Liverpool Central and Hooton.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "We were called to Rock Ferry station at 9.59pm yesterday (October 14) following reports of an assault against a member of rail staff.

"Officers attended and a 56-year-old man was subsequently arrested in connection to the assault and conveyed to custody where he remains.

"Enquiries into this incident are ongoing."

Jane English, People Director at Merseyrail, said: “While we are unable to comment on individual incidents, we would like to reiterate that thankfully occurrences such as these are rare and the safety of our staff and passengers is of paramount importance to us.”
