Mercedes driver crashes into bin after mistaking drive for reverse

A Mercedes driver binned their new £25,000 car – after mistaking drive for reverse and crashing outside a shop.

The driver had recently acquired the automatic A-class model, the Daily Star reports, but got in a muddle outside Spar on Chester Road in Preston Brook, Cheshire and mounted a bin.

Photos on the Daresbury and Windmill Hill Police Facebook page showed the car suspended off the ground with the bin knocked sideways.

Officers were able to free the vehicle and replace the bin.

A post accompanying the pictures on Facebook said: "Assisted with a minor RTC in Preston Brook this morning.

"A driver who had a newly acquired automatic vehicle mistook drive for reverse and parked on the rubbish bin.

"Apologies if you were unable to access the shops car park whilst we were recovering the vehicle.

"Happily the bin came away mostly unscathed as we managed to pop it back in place. Damage has been reported to the parish council."

Social media users were quick to make fun of the driver's misfortune: Julie Greer wrote: "His parking is rubbish."

Ian Berry joked: "Did you ask the driver where they had bin???"
