A group of friends on a lads' holiday got a round of free pints after being dubbed 'heroes' for finding a stranded American walker who broke her ankle.
Jim Scragg, 50, from Mossley Hill, was on a weekend break in Dingle, South Ireland, over the bank holiday weekend with his four friends Jon, Chris, Phil and Ani.
On Saturday, April 29, the group decided to walk up Mount Brandon in County Kerry, but overheard people talking about a missing woman.
They ended up finding an elderly American man named John who was visiting Ireland with his wife, Mary from Minnesota, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Jim told The ECHO: "He [John] said Mary went to go for a walk but he didn't go with her as he has a bad back. Anyway she set off and phones him to say she had fallen and hurt herself.
"She said she took a right when she was walking from the car park but didn't stay on the walking path. She told him she didn't know where she was but she could see a landmark, the three sisters, and could see the car park she left from.
"John had phoned the police who were on their way but asked if we would be able to help."
The men decided to split up and cover as much ground as they could to help find Mary, who could not move due to her injury. After an hour and a half Jon, 51, from Aigburth and Chris, 50, from Manchester, found Mary and informed the Coastguard of her location using the what3words app.
Jim said: "Mary had broken her ankle and was taken to a local hospital to be patched up. She's making a good recovery and has been sending plenty of text messages to express her gratitude.
"We were booked to go to a pub at 7pm that night so my mate called to say we would be late and said why. When we got there we were kindly rewarded with a round of Guinness by the lady running the pub for free.
"Word spread really quickly and two of the lads were dubbed 'the Mount Brandon heroes', it was really bizarre."
Mary and John have sent texts thanking the men for their help.
One read: "Can't accurately describe my feelings of gratitude to you and your team. I promise to pray for all of you every day. God bless you!"
One from Mary said: "Again THANK YOU for rescuing me! You did an AWESOME job - kind considerate and so helpful! GOD BLESS all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will pray for you daily for as long as I can! Again THANKS A MILLION."
