Memorial for Scot killed outside Spanish nightclub vandalised before anniversary service

A bench erected at the spot where a Scots holidaymaker was killed in Spain was vandalised before a service to mark the 10th anniversary of his death.

Craig Mallon was killed outside a club in Lloret de Mar on May 19, 2012 while on his brother’s stag party.

A group of young men, believed to be French, attacked the 26-year-old, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, and his friends as they left Rockefellers.

Despite eyewitness accounts and authorities discovering the group of key witnesses had left their hotel early, the case was not solved.

A team, led by retired Strathclyde Police detective David Swindle, discovered a plaque on the bench destroyed during a trip to Lloret de Mar.

It had Craig’s dates of birth and death inscribed on it and a message in Spanish which read: “In memory of Craig Mallon, the town of Lloret de Mar.”
