A Melbourne doctor who posted a series of gruesome images and confidential patient information online has had his registration cancelled after blaming his actions on autism.
Christopher Kwan Chen Lee made a series of "outrageous" posts to an online forum in early 2016, then again between May 2018 and April 2019.
Those posts included graphic and gory images of deceased people including foetuses, infants and women who appeared to have died in violent circumstances.
He also posted extreme racist, misogynistic commentary, endorsing violence against women or seeking to objectify or humiliate women, including his wife.
Intimate pictures with his wife were also shared online, without her consent.
On June 9, 2019, the Medical Board of Australia took immediate action to suspend Dr Lee's registration.
The 35-year-old, who worked briefly at Box Hill Hospital, has not practised since.
Dr Lee accepted his posts were gruesome, utterly unacceptable, depicted violence, expressed misogyny and involved conduct inconsistent with the standards for doctors.
But his lawyers argued undiagnosed autism played a part in the behaviour.
He has since been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder of a level-two severity which requires substantial support, including psychiatric and psychological treatment..
On Friday, the Board cancelled Dr Lee's registration for a total of four and a half years, expiring in December 2023.
He is able to apply for registration in early 2024.
