Mel C lifts the lid on Victoria Beckham's drunken antics on day Spice Girls signed deal

Melanie C has lifted the lid on the hilarious antics her Spice Girls bandmate Victoria Beckham got up to on the night the pop stars signed their first record deal in 1995.

In a far from Posh manner, 48-year-old Mel, also known as Sporty Spice, revealed that Victoria was so drunk in a taxi ride away from the Virgin Records signing that she threw her knickers out of the window.

The girls' manager Simon Fuller was even forced to pay the cabbie an additional £50 to cover the mess and to apologise for the 'terrible behaviour'.

Writing in her autobiography, Who I Am, Mel added that Victoria, also 48, fell asleep in her dinner later in the evening at an up-market West London restaurant.

"By the time we arrived, the taxi was a wreck; there was lipstick, champagne and flowers all over it. Somehow, Victoria's knickers ended up being chucked out of the window," Mel wrote.

"We steamed into this incredibly posh restaurant, stinking of booze and ciggies, and crashed onto the table. The other diners were not amused. By this point, Victoria was so drunk she pretty much fell asleep face down in her dinner. She was still knickerless!"

In another tale involving Posh, Mel revealed she she was almost 'ousted' from the group following a 'pivotal moment' when the girls were invited to the Brit Awards in 1996.

Mel recalled them sitting next to Lenny Kravitz as they drank champagne and enjoyed the performances of the night.

"As we were all leaving, you know we'd all had a little bit of champagne. We were all a little tipsy, probably quite drunk and there was a little incident," she explained.

"It was nothing huge in my mind. I told Victoria to eff off. We all have these kerfuffles in our lives. It was under my breath. It wasn't an aggravated or aggressive thing that I did."

However, the other girls, including Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Victoria, spoke to her about her behaviour.

"But the next day the girls told me under no uncertain terms that it was unacceptable," she added to the How To Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast.

"Then Simon Fuller, who was our manager at the time, wanted to speak to me. And I was threatened with being ousted from the band if any behaviour like that happened again."
