Meghan Markle set to land lead role in an iconic Hollywood movie sequel

Meghan Markle has been tipped to make a magnificent return to acting as she and Prince Harry desperately try to save their £80m Netflix deal.

Reports in Australia even hint that the Duchess of Sussex may land a huge leading role in a sequel to the 1992 classic The Bodyguard film.

The news is particularly surprising given the fact that Harry's late mother Princess Diana was once talked about in connection with the movie.

Kevin Costner, who starred alongside Whitney Houston in the iconic original film, is believed to have pitched the idea of a follow-up movie, the Express reports.

One insider told New Idea magazine: "The only thing Kevin loves more than an underdog like Meghan is a box office hit.

Costner previously said in 2012 that "The studio liked the idea of doing a Bodyguard 2" with Diana playing the role of the new love interest.

The American actor even spoke with the late Princess on the phone as he recalled: "I just remember her being incredibly sweet on the phone, and she asked the question: ‘Are we going to have, like a kissing scene?' She said it in a very respectful way.

"I said: 'Yeah,'" the star continued in an interview with People magazine.

"'There’' going to be a little bit of [kissing], but we can make that okay too.'"

However Diana eventually decided to not go ahead with the film as she concluded her life already had enough drama.

She allegedly said: "Look, my life is maybe going to become my own at some point. Go ahead and do this script, and when it's ready I'll be in a really good spot."

The news comes just weeks after the couple suffered a huge loss when their $20m Spotify contract was terminated last month.

The couple are still clinging on to their lucrative Netflix deal with plans for some upcoming shows following the success of their bombshell Harry & Meghan docuseries last year.

It's been reported that one of Harry's future projects with the streaming giant will see him also follow in the footsteps of his beloved mother with the Duke allegedly planning to fly out to Africa to make a solo documentary.
