Meghan Markle 'makes Suits return in final season' but not how fans hoped

Meghan Markle may have left US legal drama Suits but her presence was not forgotten as the final series of the show was aired.

Fans of the show were delighted when the new life of 38-year-old Meghan, who is now the Duchess of Sussex, was given a nod by the writers of the series.

There was hope that Meghan might reprise her role as Rachel Zane but the cheeky reference was enough to hit the spot for many fans.

Meghan had starred in all seven seasons of the show until she quit to become a royal and married Prince Harry .

At the end of the seventh series, Rachel had apparently moved to Seattle with her husband Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), so that they could start their own law firm.

When Mike returned to the show at the beginning of season nine, he was asked how Rachel was getting on.

Mike replied: "If I told you how good, you probably wouldn’t believe me."

This was followed by the official Suits Twitter account sharing a GIF of he scene and commenting on it with a winking emoji and writing: "Turns out Rachel is doing REALLY well."

The joke went down a storm with fans of the show, who shared their views in the comments, letting the show's writers now how much they appreciated the nod to Meghan.

One fan wrote: "Awe that's super cute actually. I hope she sees it."

Another agreed, saying: "We know, she's married to our UK Prince Charming."

Patrick Adams spoke about the reference to Entertainment Tonight, saying: "For Mike, this is just a trip to New York. There’s phone calls with Rachel saying goodbye and I love you, and, you know, I think there’s some obvious acknowledgment that she’s still there and a part of the show.

"This is just a way for him to come see his friends one last time."
