Meghan Markle 'left beloved dog in Canada as he didn't like Prince Harry'

Meghan Markle made the heartbreaking decision to not take her beloved rescue dog back when she returned to north America as the pooch didn't get on with Prince Harry, it has been claimed.

Before marrying into the royal family, the duchess had two dogs - Guy and Bogart.

When she moved to the UK and set up home with her future husband, Meghan brought Guy with her, but left Bogart behind, with insiders saying it was because he was too old to fly.

This was never confirmed by the Palace, however they said Bogart was "living with friends", and explained that moving him to the UK "would have lots of complexity to it".

But now the Sussexes have returned to the US, many fans hoped Meghan would be able to be reunited with the Labrador-German shepherd cross - who she regularly gushed about in pre-royal interviews - but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

An insider told the Sun : "Meghan adored that dog but the decision not to take him back was based on Bogart’s relationship with Harry.

"Bogart never took to Harry when they spent time together in Canada.

"He didn’t like Harry. Meghan was very vocal about the fact it wouldn’t be fair to take him back full-time, given Bogart’s feelings for her husband."

During September 2018, Meghan and Harry adopted a new dog, Oz, who joined Guy in their Kensington Palace home.

However Meghan hinted that people might have actually got the name wrong during an official engagement.

During their first visit to Sussex  since being named Duke and Duchess of the county on their wedding day, Meghan and Harry popped into the Survivors' Network, a charity that supports victims sexual violence.

They were presented with a framed picture of Meghan's beagle Guy.

Harry then confirms they also have a new furry friend, saying: "No one's even seen our [new] dog, so that's amazing."

Meghan then adds: "I know, and they keep getting her name wrong."

It has been widely reported that the couple named the new addition Oz, and many believe it was a nod to their  tour to Australia and New Zealand.

Meghan is a huge animal lover, and has previously said the rescue dogs "mean the absolute world" to her and has referred to them as "my loves" and "my boys".

Both dogs regularly featured on her pre-royal  Instagram  account, and Meghan even shared a snap of Guy modelling a Union flag jumper.

She often used the adoptdontshop hashtag in her Instagram posts.

Her passion also helped her bond with the Queen, who is also known for her love of dogs.

In their engagement interview in 2017, Harry revealed the Queen's corgis and dorgis took to Meghan "straight away".

He said: "And the corgis took to you straight away.

"I've spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing..."

Describing the moment, Meghan said: "Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet."

And Harry added: "...just wagging tails and I was just like argh."
