MADURAI: The statewide mega Covid-19 vaccination drive on Sunday witnessed good response from the public for getting their precaution dose, including Madurai and other southern districts. In Madurai district, 63,846 beneficiaries were vaccinated as part of the drive. Compared to the previous drive, there was a marginal drop, as over 83,000 had got vaccinated last time. Among those who got vaccinated on Sunday, around 25,000 took the precaution dose and 24,000 the second dose.
“Initially, I was unsure whether to get the precaution dose as we have to pay and get it done at a private hospital. Since the government is offering it free, I wanted my family and I to get vaccinated at the earliest,” said S Rajesh, a resident of Teppakulam, who got vaccinated on Sunday. A total of 3,415 camps were organised from 7am to 7pm, including 2,415 camps in rural areas and 1,000 camps in city areas, across Madurai district.
In Kanyakumari district, 37,321 beneficiaries were vaccinated, including 28,071 taking the precaution dose. In Virudhunagar district, which has been witnessing a steady rise in fresh Covid-19 cases, more than 60,000 beneficiaries were vaccinated on Sunday, said health officials.
