The Pokémon Company published a teaser today about the "mega matchup of the millennium" featuring Machamp versus Hawlucha. The #PokemonLegendsZA hashtag in the Instagram post indicates that a video will premiere on YouTube on Aug. 28 at 8am CT to reveal how it's connected to the upcoming game.
Hawlucha being featured in this post with "mega" in the description is no surprise to Pokémon fans who love a good leak. It is among the 25 Pokémon that a 4chan leaker reported would get a Mega evolution in Legends: Z-A when it releases on Oct. 16 on the Switch and Switch 2. This teaser revealing Hawlucha fighting Machamp in an upcoming video tied to the game is making a lot of players, including me, believe that the star of the Aug. 28 video will be Mega Hawlucha.
"Mega Hawlucha, please be goated," an excited fan wrote in the IG post's comments. "The official tweet refers to it as a 'mega matchup.' Very subtle," another player wrote on Reddit. "Either Machamp is winning and Hawlucha mega evolves to turn the tables, or the fight is even and they both mega evolve," another fan wrote, trying to predict the video script.
The possibility of a Mega Machamp made a second group of Pokémon fans really excited, even though the Pokémon isn't in any leaks released so far. You can choose your side: either Mega Machamp is coming, but nobody was able to leak it, or it will just be part of the plot for Hawlucha to Mega evolve. I'm more convinced of the second scenario.
Mega Victreebel and Mega Dragonite are the two other Mega evolutions confirmed for Pokémon Legends: Z-A so far. While Dragonite's transformation was revealed in a gameplay trailer, Victreebel got its own short animation that made me wish for a Pokémon horror game.
Aug. 28 should reveal if Mega Hawlucha is coming and if it looks like a fan's drawing.
