Meeting of America initiative to continue in 2023

Some 300 central and eastern Kentuckians met online with the intent of seeing a state that is not as politically and socially divided. The Commonwealth was chosen as the launch of Meeting of America with plans to expand the conversation and action to other states. Three separate sessions were led by participants this fall. Pearce Godwin is a co-founder of Meeting of America.

“So those that already participated in recent weeks in central and eastern Kentucky they will move from that foundational experience to the follow through, to the action. How do we fix what’s broken together. Meanwhile, over the coming months and ultimately years, we’ll invite many more people into those initial conversations to build that trust in order to take action together,” said Godwin.

Godwin said participant surveys showed 100% felt heard and more than 80% were more hopeful. Godwin has a favorite stat from the first round of conversations.

“95% of the people who went through all three conversations want to be part of that ongoing Meeting of America community and coalition where we’re finding belong and relationship outside of who and what we’re against and where most importantly we’re working together to fix things we probably agree are broken,” said Godwin.

Of the 300 people participating in the launch of Meeting of America, Godwin said 37% reported being moderate, 33% liberal, and 30% conservative.
