Meet the Irish teen representing Ireland at Junior Eurovision

Meet Ireland’s Junior Eurovision hopeful that is set to take on a grand finale in Paris next month.

Teenager Maiú Levi Lawlor is representing Ireland in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest at La Seine Musicale in Paris on December 19.

Competing against 19 other countries, the 14-year-old from Greystones, Co Wicklow is hoping that his Irish language song 'Saor' will prove a winning tune at the prestigious event.

The new entry, which was released this week, was written by a team made up of Niall Mooney, Lauren White Murphy and Anna Banks.

It details the feelings of teenagers emerging from the struggles of our Covid lockdown and how they will now live life to the full, which is sure to resonate with many young people worldwide.

It is uncertain if the contest will be held in person or remotely once more.

But either way, presenter Louise Cantillon and judge Niamh Ní Chróinín will be on hand to cheer Maiú on as he performs for the nation.

Online voting details will be released soon.

The Junior Eurovision 2021 will air live from Paris on TG4 at 3pm on December 19.
