The Odisha government has reinstated 2021-batch IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, who was arrested in June 2025 for allegedly accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe. The officer has now been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, according to a report of Times of India which cited an official notification issued on May 21, 2026.
The decision has triggered widespread discussion on social media, with many users questioning the move given that the corruption case against him is still pending.
Why Was Dhiman Chakma Arrested?
Dhiman Chakma, a native of Tripura, was serving as Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Odisha's Kalahandi district when he was arrested by Odisha Vigilance officials in June 2025. Investigators alleged that he was caught red-handed while accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a stone crusher owner at his government residence.
