A medical centre has been taken out of special measures by inspectors and given a new rating of 'good' after being slammed as 'inadequate' only six months ago. The Care Quality Commission deemed Monton Medical Centre as 'good' overall and in all categories of assessment - safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.
The centre delivers personal medical services to a patient population of about 9,500 people as part of a wider network of GP practices in the Eccles and Irlam primary care network. CQC inspectors said that 'significant improvements' had been made to the centre where Doctors Joseph Borg-Costanzi, Ian Gilani and Brian Rhodes practice.
"We found that the practice provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm," their report said. "Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs. Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.

"Patients could access care and treatment in a timely way." They also said the way the practice was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care."
The report said no breaches of regulations were found but recommended that the medical centre should 'continue to improve how patients get through to someone at the practice on the phone'.
It should also follow its complaints policy when responding to complaints, and continue to make improvements to cervical cancer screening tests.
