Meaning behind mysterious symbol on soles of Meghan Markle's shoes revealed

The mystery behind a symbol on the shoes worn by Meghan Markle earlier this week has been explained. The elegant heels adorned by the Duchess of Sussex featured a curious design on the soles.

Meghan wore the footwear as she joined the rest of the royal family in mourning for the Queen at the Palace of Westminster this week. Eagle-eyed viewers were quick to spot the unusual marking as she performed a deep curtsey to the late Monarch's coffin.

The symbol is comprised of three overlapping straight lines and one curved line. Speculation began to mount as to whether the design was a personalised emblem or maybe a tribute to the Queen.

But fashion industry experts soon identified the P and A markings as the logo of Paul Andrew. The high-end fashion designer, who is originally from Berkshire but is now based in New York, is well-known for his luxury footwear lines, the Mirror reports.

People believe she's wearing the designer's Pump It Up Heels, which she previously sported at a royal engagement in Ireland before she and Harry gave up their senior royal roles for a new life in the US. Meghan teamed the heels with a black dress, coat and hat.

In a touching tribute to the Queen, she also wore a pair of pearl and diamond earrings which were given to her as a present by the Monarch before their first joint engagement in 2018. They were very similar to the pair the Queen herself wore for the occasion.

The two royal women laughed and joked as they sat side-by-side at a number of engagements in Chester, travelling there overnight on the Royal Train. Meghan joined her husband Prince Harry and other members of the royal family as the Queen's coffin made its final journey from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

She travelled by car alongside the Countess of Wessex during the procession, while Kate, the new Princess of Wales sat with Queen Consort Camilla in a separate vehicle. Meghan and Harry were in Europe when news broke that the Queen was extremely unwell, with the Duke rushing to Balmoral to be with his family.

They have since carried out a number of engagements, their first since they quit the UK in 2020. All eyes were on the couple as they joined Kate and William for a walkabout in Windsor, during which they seemingly put months of tensions and fallout aside to unite in grieve.

William reportedly offered his younger brother to join him for the pre-arranged outing, which took place just a few minutes away from Frogmore Cottage, where the Sussexes are staying for the mourning period. Charles used his first speech as King to "send love" to his younger son and daughter-in-law and referenced their new life in the US.

The couple now live in Montecito, California, with their children Archie, two, and Lilibet, one. They've used the months since quitting The Firm to build an impressive new life, including multi-million deals with Netflix and Spotify.
