Me and Mr J by Rachel McIntyre - review

Rachel McIntyre, Me and Mr J

Me and Mr J tackles difficult situations, in an extremely thought-provoking way. Rachel McIntyre never shies away from revealing the true darkness that comes with cyber-bullying and the true happiness that comes when you fall in love for the first time. The cyber-bullying storyline is emotionally charged and makes you feel like you are experiencing it at the same time as Lara.

Through Lara we see the struggles that the recession brought on a family and how sometimes teenagers feel constantly alone when there is help out there for everyone. The author manages to show that the stress put upon teenagers can build to the point of explosion, but they manage to keep it inside to try and not destroy the people around them. Lara is shown as a family-loving teenager who just wants to help and restore her life to how it was before.

The teacher and student in love storyline is a controversial subject but is portrayed as true love and is heartfelt the whole way through. If you forget about the teacher and student part, it is a beautiful love story of when someone is in need and the love they bring to help them through. But once you remember their positions it is hard to ignore and can feel wrong at points in the book.
