McVitie's say people have been eating chocolate digestives wrong

Chocolate digestives are the perfect accompaniment to your daily cuppa, but we all might have been making a big mistake when it comes to eating them.

It might seem like there's no wrong way to eat the chocolate biscuit, but biscuit giant McVitie's have waded into the debate to explain the correct way to eat them.

For years, biscuit fans have been questioning the brand as to whether the chocolate coating side is on the top or the bottom of the biscuit - reports Mirror Online.

And for years McVitie's has issued the same answer: "Our Digestives go through a reservoir of chocolate, so it's on the bottom!"

But people were left confused, arguing that all of the advertising, and the way the biscuits come out of the packaging, show the chocolate to be on top.

And it turns out there may actually be a benefit to eating them the 'correct' way round.

One fan said: "It's on the bottom for a reason… food tastes different depending on which way up it goes in your mouth.

"You taste the flavours on the underside of the food (e.g. those on your tongue) more than the rest.

“We're actually just a bit stupid and eat chocolate digestives the wrong way up."

McVitie's has also announced the launch of three different digestives, branding them "the finest biscuits to date" and claiming they are too posh to dunk in your tea.

Its upmarket range of VIBs - Very Important Biscuits - sees the launch of Classic Caramel Bliss, Heavenly Chocolate Hazelnut and Luscious Blood Orange in 250g packs.
